Actual change of address
Okay, now I've actually moved. It's close to the beach, but not the one I was thinkig about four months ago.
Here's the new locale.
My girlfriend is going to Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, now in her fourth of seven semesters. We clearly weren't going to make it seven semesters lond distance so I'm going to try to work from here. I have high speed and easy telephone access to the U.S., courtesy of Vonage, of which I'm a now big fan.
The school is on St. Kitts, a small Caribbean island. The country is St. Kitts & Nevis. Nevis (Nee-vis) is the smaller round island and St. Kitts is the larger, drumstick-shaped island. I'm currently living around the narrow handle of the drumstick.
I plan to do some freelance work for the magazine I've worked for for the last year, Bicycle Retailer & Industry News, in Orange County, CA. I also want to pitch some ideas to some of the consumer bike magazines, try my hand at some outside-the-bike-industry "journalism," and I'll be fact checking here and there for CJR, a magazine I interned and fact checked for before getting the job in Orange County.
St. Kitts is refreshingly the opposite of Orange County in every way. I've traded uber first-world land of plastic surgery, pristine white stucco/red clay roof home owners association holier than thou Republican stronghold Orange Curtain for majority black, good population of bona fide Rastafarian, left-hand-side-of-the-road driving, no traffic light, thrid-world more monkeys than people, raped and pillaged by European colonialism Caribbean island.
More to come.
